Common Assumptions People Have About Acupuncture Needles

Everybody knows acupuncture is a treatment that involves inserting needles at specific points to various depths at a person’s body. But there are also several assumptions that people have about acupuncture; for instance, acupuncture needles hurt. Due to fear of pain from thin acupuncture needles, many people avoid this traditional Chinese medicine.

Although needles are inserted into the body, the recipient doesn’t feel any pain, and especially with Mac disposable acupuncture needles, which are extra needles than other needles. However, there are other kinds of sensations that a person may experience at the site of needling. These sensations are a result of De Qi, which indicates an acupuncture needle is properly placed in the body. Given below are common sensations that people experience during acupuncture:

Heaviness - Although needles are thin and weightless, people feel a weight is being placed when a needle is inserted. Many times, this feeling of heaviness spreads through the surrounding area of the body where the needle has been placed.

Ache - An achy sensation occurs at the needling site along with heaviness; however, it dissipates after a few seconds. Sometimes, the point throbs slightly throughout the therapy. While it is normal, it could be intense, especially when needles are located on hands or feet.

Electric - Needles at certain acupuncture points feel like an eclectic shock, but this zapped sensation immediately vanish. This sensation is common at Pericardium 6, the most common acupuncture point because the median nerve is directly beneath the site.

Tingle - The tingling sensation is common at needling sites that may or may run throughout the body. Many times, it happens only at the time of needle insertion and dissipates immediately.
Warm - A sensation of warmth spreads through the surrounding side at the needling point. The person experiences this pleasant sensation as if heating-pads have been placed at the various body parts, a minute or two after the insertion of needles.

These were common sensations that a person experiences; otherwise, the needles are twirled, moved up and down at different depth, and heated or charged until the De Qi sensation occurs.
